Sammy Hagar & Friends

PRESS RELEASE JUL 11, 2013

Sammy Hagar has enlisted three legendary musicians – Toby Keith, Mickey Hart and Taj Mahal – to round out the final three tracks on his first-ever rock collaborations album: "Sammy Hagar and Friends." The highly anticipated new album is set for release by Frontiers Records on September 24th in North America, September 27th in Europe, September 29th in the UK, and will be preceded by the album’s first single and video for the high voltage track “Knockdown Dragout” featuring Kid Rock, Joe Satriani and Denny Carmassi.

In addition to the 10-track standard edition album, fans will also have an opportunity to purchase a Deluxe edition of "Sammy Hagar and Friends," packaged in a high-gloss Digipak. The Deluxe CD/DVD package includes an exclusive bonus audio track, "Space Station #5,” recorded live at the Ronnie Montrose Tribute Concert held on April 29, 2012 in San Francisco, as well as the "Making of” album documentary which includes bonus video of the first single "Knockdown Dragout,” and more.

From new original songs including “Not Going Down” (a song specifically written for Hagar by Jay Buchanan of Rival Sons), “Knockdown Dragout,” “Bad On Fords and Chevrolets,” “All We Need Is An Island,” and “Father Sun,” to reimagined covers of classics including Bob Seger’s, “Ramblin’ Gamblin’ Man,” and Depeche Mode’s “Personal Jesus,” – Hagar has masterfully assembled an album that delves into rock, country, pop, blues and zydeco.

Inner Child

This song was revealed for the first time ever on a live performance on Dan Rather's "The Big Interview". The song finds Sammy reflecting on his inner child in an intimate solo performance just with his voice and his guitar. After performing it live for Dan Rather, he headed back to record it in his studio – "I wasn't as nervous as in the Dan Rather version!" he joked.

Here's what Sammy said about the creation of the new song, which came from family retreat.
"It's one of the most wonderful things I’ve ever done because I got to hear how my kids really think about their Mom and Dad…I’ve found out that all my problems are being caused in life by my inner child. That little guy that was hurt as a child, and felt those things.  Even though I’ve accomplished everything and more than I could have ever dreamed, that little guy is still stirrin’ around in there, you know what I mean?"

Available on iTunes starting Thursday, February 25, 2016.

Santa’s Going South For Christmas (RSD Picture Disc)

Originally written in 2010 just in time to debut at a holiday fundraiser benefiting Homeward Bound, The Ritter Center and 17 Throckmorton, Sammy & The Wabos were joined in a live performance by fellow Marin residents and Grateful Dead musicians Bob Weir and Mickey Hart of The Grateful Dead. Sammy then teamed up with buddy Toby Keith for the 2011 holiday season, making this a duet as the pair share verses and the song was given a proper release.

In 2014, Sammy performed the song live with friend Nancy Wilson for the  Heart & Friends: Home For The Holidays special.

In 2015, Sammy performed a live version of the song with Hawaiian musician Willie K for Alice Cooper's New Year's Eve fundraiser for Maui Food Bank.

In 2019 the song was released as a special picture disc for Record Store Day, with the b-side an unreleased live version of "Eagles Fly" from the 2019 Sammy Hagar & The Circle tour.

In 2021, Sammy & The Circle recorded a version as part of the Lockdown Sessions.
