Cabo Wabo Beach Club Opens in Huntington Beach

Rock & Roll Legend Sammy Hagar Debuts Flagship Cabo Wabo Beach Club in Huntington Beach and Donates $10,000 to Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC) to kick off Philanthropic Partnership

Rock & Roll Hall of Famer and spirits trailblazer Sammy Hagar celebrated the grand opening of his flagship Cabo Wabo Beach Club, an elevated take on his world-famous Cabo Wabo Cantina, at The Waterfront Beach Resort in Huntington Beach. During the exclusive event on Wednesday, May 24, Hagar and Waterfront owner, Bob Mayer, presented a $10,000 donation check to the CHOC Foundation, which will go directly to aid children and their families who struggle with the financial burdens that accompany a child’s hospitalization.

Huntington Beach Mayor Tony Strickland welcomed the addition of Hagar’s world famous Cabo Wabo brand to Huntington Beach and honored the legendary rock star with a city proclamation.

VIP guests, including Hagar’s wife, Kari, and sons, Andrew and Aaron Hagar, along with fellow Rock & Roll Hall of Famer and bandmate from Van Halen and The Circle, Michael Anthony, got an up-close look at the Cabo Wabo Beach Club, which embodies the laid back, beach-town vibe of Cabo and is full of the spirit and energy of its famous founder throughout — from memorabilia, including cassette tapes and guitars, to the bar program, which features Hagar’s award-winning, top-shelf spirits Sammy’s Beach Bar Rum, Santo Tequila and Sammy’s Beach Bar Cocktail Co. sparkling rum canned cocktails.

An Orange County resident, Hagar is donating his personal net-proceeds from Cabo Wabo Beach Club to Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC). Hagar’s philanthropic partnership is dedicated to CHOC’s Social Service Department to support children and their families who are struggling with the burden of financial and psychosocial obstacles that accompany a child’s hospitalization and treatment. Donations will be sent to CHOC on a regular basis in perpetuity as long as Cabo Wabo Beach Club in Huntington Beach remains open, and will help support parents so they may focus on their child’s care and well-being. A dedicated philanthropist, Hagar and his wife, Kari Hagar, created The Hagar Family Foundation in 2008 and have donated more than $4 million dollars to numerous charities to date.

The party was capped off with a performance by Hagar tribute band, Red Voodoo, who, much to the surprise of all, were joined on-stage by Hagar and former Van Halen bandmate Michael Anthony for an impromptu performance of his hits “I Can’t Drive 55” and “Your Love is Driving Me Crazy.”
