"These guys rock the Cantina damn near as often as I do – I love these guys, I love this place. I built it for this very reason, for my friends and fellow musicians to be able to do what we love to do even on vacation and that's play music" – Sammy

Wonderful afternoon at the 13th Annual John Varvatos Benefit

On April 17, John Varvatos hosted the 13th Annual Stuart House Benefit at the Varvatos location in Hollywood, CA. On hand for a special superjam were the likes of Sammy Hagar, Michael Anthony, Chad Smith and Vic Johnson, who got some help from newly inducted Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Rick Nielsen of Cheap Trick.

Recording artists Michael Anthony, Chad Smith, Sammy Hagar, and Vic Johnson performed onstage during the John Varvatos 13th Annual Stuart House benefit presented by Chrysler with Kids' Tent by Hasbro Studios at John Varvatos Boutique.

The fun and fund-raising continued with an ear-busting concert by Sammy Hagar, Vic Johnson, Michael Anthony from Van Halen and Chad Smith from The Red Hot Chili Peppers. KISS's Gene Simmons stayed stone-faced in mirrored aviators and a black shirt embroidered with a skull and roses, even when bombarded by fans, who stopped him and requested selfies as he walked through the shindig. But he broke from his too-cool-for-school stance by playing air drums during Hagar’s performance of “I Can’t Drive 55.” After more tunes, including a cover of Led Zeppelin’s “Rock and Roll” that featured Cheap Trick’s Rick Nielsen on guitar, the band auctioned off Hagar’s guitar, Smith’s drum kit and a lesson from Smith for a total of $12,750. The event raised $800,000 for Stuart House, which aids child victims of sexual abuse. The figure is bound to go higher since the online auction, which includes a pair of autographed jeans that rocker Steven Tyler had worn on stage, doesn’t end until April 26.

Van Halen Acoustic “Cabo Wabo” – Happy Anniversary Cabo Wabo Cantina

"It's hard to believe it's been 26 years! Some of the most fun I've had in my life has been since the opening of the Cabo Wabo. I just spent a week down there celebrating the anniversary because I couldn't be there today… played the Cantina three times! The most fun is when nobody knows, I just walk out there, always a great feeling makes everybody so high. You can do no wrong on stage after that ha ha.

The discovery of a place like Cabo and the creation of the Cantina has created a lifestyle for me and hundreds of thousands of fans. Its one of those dreams I never dreamt would come true. I don't know where I would be in my life or how I would even dress if it weren't for that lifestyle change.

I thank the fans and the staff at the Cantina from the bottom my heart, Michael Anthony, Eddie and Alex, and my partners Marco, Jorge, and all the staff (some that have been there 26 years) – it's awesome! thank you, thank you, thank you!" – Sammy

The Cabo Wabo Cantina opened its doors in April 1990 and Van Halen was there to throw a monster opening party. This is a clip of an acoustic Van Halen performance of the song "Cabo Wabo".
