Kari’s 50th B-Day ’80s-Themed Cabo Bash!

Just got back from Cabo, and what an incredible couple shows.. Kari's 50th rivaled my annual birthday bashes! It was an 80’s themed party and guests partying included my brother-in-Santo Adam Levine (sporting a crop-top and fanny-pack, joined by his wife Behati who showed her inner 80’s in her "Jane Fonda Workout" outfit), James Hetfield, Bob Weir, Toby Keith, Emeril Lagasse, Michael Anthony and more. In keeping with the 80’s theme they all packed the dance floor for performances by Loverboy and Eddie Money. The club looked amazing the food was fantastic, the decorations and the music perfect!

Kari had this to share: "Thank you for the greatest birthday of my life I'll never forget it & the most awesome present/party anyone could ask for! Thanks to all our friends and family that made it down here to help celebrate my 50th!"

The next night the party continued with the Redheads in attendance, my sons Andrew and Aaron kicked things off, Bob Weir laid down some acoustic tunes, Eddie Money rocked it and handled emcee duties, Loverboy killed it for 90-minutes, and then Mikey, Vic, me and Kenny Aronoff took the stage for 2 hours and an off-the-cuff setlist. We of course pulled Toby Keith and Eddie Money back up to join us – maybe one of the best nights at Cabo Wabo ever!

Special highlights were Toby knocking it out of the park on "Sweet Home Alabama" and Bob Seger's "Fire Down Below" (his voice was perfect for those songs!) and Bob Weir and the band closing the show in true Dead fashion with a version of Mas Tequila that has never been heard or played before – as Bob put it, "We took a long walk in the woods"!

RIP Rockline’s Bob Coburn

Wow a true Rock 'n' Roll radio legend gone. I've known Bob from the beginnings and he's always supported my music – starting with Montrose through my whole career. He was a real rock radio guy – the real deal a fan and supporter of rock music. I must've done his radio show "Rockline" with him 10 times if I did it once. His wife Lynette was the realtor that actually represented me in buying the house next-door to Eddie Van Halen in Malibu back in 85. My love to his family. Very sad news indeed. Sammy

“Three Lock Box” celebrates 34 years!

“Three Lock Box” came out today 34 years ago in 1982!! Three Lock Box was my second album at Geffen Records and produced by Keith Olsen who also produced my first million seller “Standing Hampton”.

The title was taken completely wrong and I almost had some difficulties with the big store chains thinking it was a sexual thing.

But a “Three Lock Box” stands for mind, body, and spirit — it was also a very valuable buried treasure usually belonging to royalty. When traveling at sea, Kings and Queens would have their valuables in a chest that took three keys to open.

I love this album a lot. Working with Keith was more comfortable second time around and I had a lot more freedom to experiment. “Your Love Is Driving Me Crazy” is still the highest charting Top 40 single of my solo career. “Remember The Heroes” turned out to be an anthem with our war veterans. And the title track was my first big MTV video when MTV was just starting out. That song along with “Rise of the Animal” has some nice progressive guitar work which I’m still proud of today.

This album being my second million seller kicked my live attendance on tour in the ass, selling out double arenas in nearly every major city.

It’s hard to believe it was 34 years ago WOW!!!! For my ears this record still sounds great and holds up well like a fine wine. Happy birthday.
