The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce will honor rocker Sammy Hagar with the 2,779th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Tuesday, April 30, at 11:30 am PT at 6212 Hollywood Boulevard. Hagar will receive his star in the category of Recording. Speakers joining emcee Guy Fieri will be John Mayer and Tom Consolo, Hagar’s longtime manager.

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce administers the legendary Hollywood Walk of Fame for the City of Los Angeles and has proudly hosted the globally iconic star ceremonies for decades. Millions of people from here and worldwide have visited this cultural landmark since 1960.

His decades-long career has spanned breaking into the industry with the seminal hard rock band Montrose and his multi-platinum solo career to Sammy’s ride as the frontman of Van Halen, Chickenfoot, and now his latest supergroup, The Circle. On May 17, Sammy’s Island will launch at the Palms Casino Resort, a tropical pool getaway featuring delicious food, refreshing cocktails made with Hagar’s signature spirits, and live music performances poolside. The grand opening of Stage Red, a performance venue which has been renamed in honor of Sammy Hagar, will open on June 15. The theater, in Hagar’s hometown, will serve as a cornerstone for city leaders’ plans to create a regional draw in downtown Fontana, California.

Never one to hit the brakes, Sammy expanded his successes into publishing, television, radio and beyond. His three books include “Sammy Hagar’s Cocktail Hits: 85 Personal Favorites from the Red Rocker” (Skyhorse Publishing and Culinary Book Creations), New York Times best-seller, ”Are We Having Any Fun Yet?” (Harper Collins), and ”Red: My Uncensored Life in Rock,” his #1 New York Times best-selling memoir. In 2021, Sammy was the first person to be awarded the accreditation of Honorary Ambassador of Los Cabos, Mexico, which was created with the vision of distinguishing those individuals who have contributed to the development and promotion of Los Cabos and the economic growth of México in a remarkable and extraordinary way.

Sammy’s humble beginnings instilled in him an unstoppable work ethic that’s been the driving force behind his rise to the top as a musician and entrepreneur – and continues to fuel his dedication as a philanthropist. “Being a poor kid is a little humiliating and it instilled in me a desire to be somebody,” Sammy explained. “It's where all my drive comes from. Try one of my favorite recipes. The perfect pairing to my mezquila margarita.

FULL RECIPE:

Mezquila Barbecue ribs and sauce for three people – if more just double the recipe. Be careful the sauce isn't too thin. You may have to cook it down more.

1. One whole rack of pork ribs

2. Juice of one small orange

3. Your favorite barbecue dry rub

4. Heaping tsp of mustard

5. Heaping tsp of ketchup

6. 1/3 cup apple cider vinegar

7. 3 oz Santo mezquila /tequila, or mezcal

Use a large piece of foil, big enough to fold over to cover the whole rack of ribs. Squeeze orange juice onto the ribs. Rub it in and let it settle in the bottom of the foil. Then generously rub the dry rub on both sides of the ribs. Try not to let the orange juice in the bottom wash the rub off when you lay the ribs in the foil. Cover ribs tightly all around. You may need another piece of foil to get this nice and secure. Put the rack in a large baking dish in a preheated 250° oven for an hour and a half. Gently open a small hole in the foil in a place where no juice leaks out, put 2-3oz Mezquila in foil pouch, reseal it, and putback in the oven for one more hour.

Take the pan and ribs out of the oven and pour the juice from the pouches into a sauté pan. Set the ribs aside. Make sure your grill, wood or gas, is very hot. This will take 5–7 minutes to char both sides. While your sauce is on medium heat add the vinegar, ketchup, mustard and whisk it and simmer until it's reduced by 1/3. The sauce should not be too thick, but can coat the back of a spoon and is a light syrup consistency & your ribs should be done by now. Add a few dashes of your favorite hot sauce if you want to bring the heat up on your sauce. Add another ounce of mezquila or whiskey in. Give it a little taste make sure it suits your palate. Reseason if necessary.

Pour over ribs and enjoy with a mezquila Margarita.

1 oz fresh lime juice 1 oz fresh orange juice

1 oz Cointreau/triple sec

2 oz Santo Mezquila

Add all in a shaker full of ice. Shake vigorously, pour straight up into a small salted rim glass, and enjoy! One of my favorite pairings!

I was so worried that I wasn't going to make it through the performance emotionally. It was hard for me working up to it. When I hit the stage with Toby's wonderful band that I played with many times over the years, the audience, energy, enthusiasm, and love that filled that building every tear of sadness into joy. It was a beautiful experience to say the least, so proud and honored to have been invited. We all miss that bigger than life, wonderful man, Mr. Toby Keith. A.k.a. #BigDogDaddy.
