What Sammy Has Been Up To For The Past Few Months
I can truly say I am starting out 2018 refreshed after our Hagar family vacation throughout the world – wow, what an amazing time! We had to refuel the plane just 5 1/2 hours out of Maui in a little funky island called Pago Pago that didn’t even have a tower for the airport, but the Samoan people were super nice! We made it to North East Australia on the Gold Coast where we celebrated Christmas. It was a great first leg of the trip.
Soon after, we made a quick stop in Phuket, Thailand and got a taste for their main form of transportation around and celebrated New Years Eve with some traditional Thailand dancers. We even enjoyed our own personal swimming pool outside our bathroom door. The full moon in Cancer on the night of January 2nd provoked the concierge at our hotel to give us a private family ceremony of candles and incense with local flowers. We did a prayer and we set it into the pond at the hotel – a very beautiful spiritual experience indeed!
After Thailand, we were off to Cambodia where we saw these neat waterways from the plane that were called the Phi Phi islands. Kari and I had a good time going through customs upon our arrival in Cambodia. The hotel sent a car to pick us up and gave us each an ice cold coconut to enjoy. Now that’s first class. The Circle poster was in the hotel lobby – everyone loves The Circle! There were street vendors all over the place selling tarantula, scorpion, snake, frog, cockroach, and a couple other creatures I didn’t quite recognize. I was tempted but I passed. There wasn’t anything on this planet that I have ever heard of that wasn’t for sale in that bazaar shopping area. Then we passed a Buddhist temple that had a strange array of statues with a vulture eating a man’s guts etc…
Finally, we made it to Hội An, Vietnam where we celebrated Kari’s birthday! What a great time all around the world. Let’s see what 2018 holds!

Thoughts on the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame
Being a Hall of Famer (Van Halen) I am qualified to vote for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees every year. As I wait for my ballot every year, I open it with anticipation of seeing my name as a solo artist in there, haha. When someone sent me this from Ultimate Classic Rock I thought it was great and almost bought into it. Then I realized it’s someone’s opinion not for real… as of yet.
Congratulations to all the inductees especially Bon Jovi who was kept off the ballot for so long and when nominated swept the votes unanimously! It just goes to show the people are the ones that should always control the vote. Hope to see you there,
Sammy

Recap from Last Night’s “Red Til I’m Dead” Private Screening
Wow! I had my first look at "Red Til I’m Dead" last night with a little over 200 friends and local Mill Valley business, firemen, police department, and residents at The Sweetwater Music Hall after a little cocktail party at El Paseo. All I can say is that it blew my mind. It’s beyond my expectations! And my expectations and other things are always high haha.
For real, the sound was phenomenal. The eclectic group of artists really take you on a trip to say the least. I’m really proud of what the birthday bash has become to the fans, my musician friends, and especially myself. It can be extremely difficult to capture something that special, unique, and unconventional on film but we f*cking did it!! It sounds exactly like it sounds in the middle of the room at the Cabo Wabo. It looks like it’s supposed to look like being there. The 4K cameras are so clear you see every bead of sweat. The old footage from past birthdays fits in so well and seeing the same people in line 10 years ago and in the front row for my 70th damn near choked me up.
For those who have never been to a bash this is a must see. For those that have been to many bashes this is a must see. Even if you’ve been to everyone for 26 years the one thing you’ve never seen is what goes on up in the dressing room, the little rehearsals, the banter amongst the musicians. That is very special and a first for everyone to see. I don’t expect to win an Academy award for this. I don’t expect it to be a top grossing film of the year. But I guarantee the Redheads are going to love it to death. That’s all that matters to me.
I made this film for all those hundred thousand fans that didn’t make the random selection. Now you all can get in to see this fun ass rockin special birthday event. Go have a couple Santo Rita’s, some tacos, and let it all hang out. Have a blast my friends and I will definitely be in line at my local theater I want to see this with the Redheads.
Thank you for allowing me to do this!
Red till I’m dead!
