Helping Out Post-Sandy in Atlantic City with Operation Hat Trick

Making sure that kids and families have food on the table is a personal mission of mine. Helping out through Operation Hat Trick is a great way to have fun at the same time!

“Red Rocker” Sammy Hagar, an Atlantic City mainstay for the past three years at Sammy’s Beach Bar, located on the beach outside of Bally’s Atlantic City, demonstrated his love for the city once again by donating $1,000 per goal scored in Operation Hat Trick, the charity/exhibition game put on by hockey’s greatest on Saturday, Nov. 24.

Not only did Hagar pledge $1,000 per goal, he donated $10,000 directly to the charities involved in the historic game. And he did all this even though Sammy’s Beach Bar was destroyed during the storm.

Giving back isn’t anything new to the charity-minded rocker. Just last year, Hagar donated $10,000 to Reverend Monsignor William A. Hodge, pastor of St. Nicholas of Tolentine church, to provide food for Atlantic City’s needy.

“On behalf of myself and Sammy’s Beach Bar and Grill, I’m proud to lend support to our neighbors and communities impacted by Hurricane Sandy and applaud the NHL players who’ll be hittin’ the ice on Saturday,” said rocker Sammy Hagar, who’s Atlantic City restaurant was lost in the storm.

“Making sure kids and families have food on the table has been a personal mission of mine for several years and it’s through organizations like the Empire Relief Fund, NJ Hurricane Sandy Relief Fund and the local chapters of the American Red Cross that we’re gonna get that needed money into the hands of the people and families who need it to eat and rebuild their lives – right now. So, to Brad Richards, Scott Hartnell and their respective teams, ‘let the games begin, guys’ cause I’m gonna commit a minimum of 1k for every goal you score on each other.”

The final score of Operation Hat Trick was 10-6 in favor of the N.Y. Team ably captained by N.Y. Ranger Brad Richards. That’s 16 goals worth an additional $16,000 for Superstorm Sandy relief.

Operation Hat Trick was an exciting game but, in the end, it didn’t really matter who won. It was all for a good cause. The almost 11,000 cheering fans saw some great hockey and by purchasing tickets, gave comfort and relief to their neighbors who were victims of Superstorm Sandy in New Jersey and New York.

All monies raised through ticket and merchandise sales are going directly to:

The Hurricane Sandy NJ Relief Fund
The Empire State Relief Fund: Restore, Rebuild, Return
The American Red Cross
Thanks, Sammy Hagar. . . you definitely rock!
