Beale Street Music Festival

The Red Voodoo Tour

Just made it back from Memphis—only an 11 and half hours from
Cleveland!!! Spent 23 hours in Memphis and 23 on the road!! More than worth it!!!! Went to the show with Kari(New Orleans)–she works for thecompany that booked the show–so we had back stage passes!!! She finally got to meet THE MAN!!

We got there around 8:00 and finally got to see him around 10:00!! Kari was wearing her yellow Cabo shirt–Sammy of course said “hey nice shirt!”—he hung out with her for a few minutes and took a picture with her—he was so cool, there other people buggin him but he took his time and made sure she got her picture!! He
had his redrocker.com shirt on–he didnt see that I had mine on too, so I pointed it out and said I liked his shirt too—he high fived me and I said “oh cool–man its kind of embarrasing though!! He of course noticed my yard glass–and once again–shared his Waborita–he just happened to have one with him! I tried to get him to wear the red shades that he wore at the Cleveland Hard Rock–he put them on for a second but he said
he would be able to see anything out there!!

He stuck around for a few minutes to sign a few things people were shoving in his face–I didnt get anything signed—I hate asking for anything–just hangin with him for a second is plenty!! Once again the man was amazing–he really went out of his way just to say hi to a couple of fans. Of course Kari and I were able to work our way up to the front row for the show—the show was unbelievable!!!

I have to agree with the comment that the sound was
perfect throughout the show!! Definitly was pumped the hear him open up with CW again–wasnt sure if he would cause if the 1st show. “Top of the World” sounded perfect–Vic was really on it!! I really loved the little twist he puts on Eagles Fly–a little more rockin towards the end—it was a great way to end the show!! 25 more days till Cleveland!!! Sammy—-thanks again for going out of your way for a couple of
RedHeads!! See ya in Cleveland!!

Zypher Hills Festival Park

The Red Voodoo Tour

To all who wonder, yes, Sammy did have his first show of the tour last night. The band kicked ass at Livestock 9 in Zephyrhills, FL.  Although due to the festival nature of the show, they didn’t play as long as they would have liked, they still went over the 12:00 am curfew by over a half an hour.

The band sounded great.  Sammy just absolutely kicked ass!  He did so much guitar work and did almost all the solos.  He only didn’t play guitar on a few songs.  It was pretty hard to hear Victor most the night, but when he played some solos, he sure did them with a punch.  Sammy took control of the whole show.  You could tell that he was ready to tour.  He had a lot of energy and was really enjoying himself.  During one part of the show, Sammy jumped up on to different sets of speakers until he was about 10 feet above the stage, and right in front of me.  The crowd loved it.  When sammy wasn’t playing guitar, he was tearing up the stage in other ways, including
drinking beer, and gulps of Cabo Wabo tequilla, while always making sure that the others in the band and those in the front row got there fair share.

Although I’m from near Chicago, I was sure enjoying the shows the female fans were putting on.  I have never seen as many bare breasted women at a concert in my entire life.  Sammy made a similar comment, and was loving the show being put on for him.  I’ve got to admit that Florida girls know how to have a good time.  Although I must give some credit to their help, amazing 44oz. cups of beer!

House of Blues

The Red Voodoo Tour

!!!! MAS SAMMY !!!!
What else can be said? Sam the man and his kick ass waborita family tore down the house of blues last night !!!!!

Man oh man, was this trip ever worth it. Despite a cancelled flight
that left me at home Friday night, I eventually got to MB mid-morning on Saturday. Spent part of the afternoon wandering Ocean Blvd. (“down on the beach”, where the Shag was invented, ya know) and because it’s HARLEY WEEK, checking out thousands and thousands of kick ass bikes… this is the biggest event outside of Sturgis… Chatted with a couple of other SHMLers once I finally got to my hotel and eventually went out to sample some of the local nightlife.

Sunday afternoon everybody decided standing in line to get the best spots for the show was a better idea than dinner, so we took turns making bar runs for beverages at the HOB, checking out everyone’s cool sammy stuff… signing banners (thanks to Dana for the kick ass REDHEAD banner!) … many thanks to LisaA for the great nametags too! When the doors finally opened, everybody rushed to find their favorite spot. For most, of course, that was right up front, where we could just barely reach over the barricade to touch the stage…. The opening act – Eddie Bush Group – was actually quite good. A regional blues act that did a great cover of Eric Johnson, a great Zeppelin jam, and some cool blues tunes. Then after about a 15 minute set change… the curtains opened to reveal SAMMY and friends… toasting some waboritas and eventually doing the Cabo Wabo singalong with Victor on guitar…. THEN the show really kicked into high
gear…

I’m not one to write down setlists so I’ll let somebody else
do that, but suffice to say that everything great was played,
including Top of the World (which I hadn’t heard live in 6 years, very kickass)… no Poundcake but we got Why Can’t This Be Love and Right Now.. Little White Lie (with a great George Thouroughood intro), Both Sides Now, rock candy, bad motor scooter, heavy metal, i can’t drive 55, one way to rock, red, mas tequila… returning the wish, eagles fly (“by popular demand”), oh damn what else… can’t think…

Got Lisa’s sammy car signed and a couple high fives. Two girls got to dance onstage, supposedly after giving Sammy a little tittie show, but I missed that part {damn! LOL} …. the place was PACKED and it was rockin’ hard…..
but all too soon, it was over. A solid 2 hour performance.
