Mercer Arena

The Red Voodoo Tour

Sammy Hagar and the Waboritas put on a spectacular
performance for Seattle fans packed into the
Paramount Theater sunday night.  From the minute
they stepped on stage,  Sammy and the Waboritas
were very interactive with the fans…Sammy often
stopped mid-song to sign various souveniers that
fans had brought (including my “Marching to Mars”
cd- thanks Sammy!).  Cabo Wabo tequila was in
abundance as usual and after a brief toast Vic
launched into “Cabo Wabo” and never looked back.

Sammy’s voice was amazing all evening but was
particularly impressive during “Dreams” and
“Top of the World.”  The setlist was pretty much
standard…Sammy even made a few people on the
balcony really happy when he honored their request
for him to play “Give to Live.”  He mentioned
that it is easy to ignore special requests when
they are shouted at him but when fans go to the
trouble of making a sign,  he couldnt refuse.
Everybody really got into “Mas Tequila” and
“Why Cant This Be Love?,”  and we were treated
to a powerful performance of “Little White Lie.”
Mona was absolutely amazing all evening,  she
really held down the low end grooves and was
all smiles the whole time.

All in all,  it was an amazing evening in a great
venue and we hope to see Sammy back in Seattle
soon.  Thanks to Dave, Jesse, Mona, Vic, and
Sammy for a great time.  And to the fans:
remember to respect each other and have
a great time!

Sandy Point Beach

The Red Voodoo Tour

First of all, Sandy Point Beach was a simply awesome venue, with the
exception that there is no parking, so a shuttle service was a necessity
for most.  But the stage was set up right next to the water on the
beach, in the middle of a beautiful canyon.  It was 98 degrees, and the
majority of the women came dressed appropriately!  Only 3000 tickets
were to be sold, but Sammy announced that we had closer to 4000 in
attendance.

The show started at 8:15 (about 45 minutes late) – partially a result of
the fact that it literally does not get dark in Boise until 10:00 PM
this time of year.  Sammy asked if it was “ever” gonna get dark here??

I did not record the set list, but it pretty much replicated the Vegas
show, which I had seen the weekend before.  Sammy was keeping the crowd
cool by providing Waboritas to those up front, but he may have gotten a
little too generous.  Several fights broke out up front, and Sammy had
to keep telling people to chill out and just have fun.  On a lighter
note, with the heat, alcohol, and a little encouragement from Sammy, the
stage was flooded with bikini tops all night and Idaho hooters o’plenty
became an additional part of the entertainment!!

As always, Sammy constantly interacted with the crowd and, although most
of the songs were the same, the “show” was completely different from the
Vegas show.  If there was a disappointment to this show, it was the
absence of his awe-inspiring “Eagles Fly” solo or another great slow one
like “Returning of the Wish”, but he performed to the mood of the crowd,
so he elected to stick with high energy material by encoring with
“Marching to Mars” and “Right on Right”.

He said he’d be be back to Boise “real soon” – I hope like hell he means
it!!!!

Rockfest ’99

The Red Voodoo Tour

let me just say that i was not a real big sammy fan..of course i never gave
myself a chance to be…but this year i had my mind set on going to see
Motley Crue at Rockfest…so my husband and i went up there for the
weekend….Sammy was suppose to be the last one to perform Sat. night, but
he switched with Poison.

This meant i had to sit through Sammy to see
Poison..  10 minutes into the show i was a diehard Sammy fan..I have never
seen a performance like that. Nor have I ever seen a performer who can
transform me to liking them sooo much….unfortunately i was back a good
150 – 200 rows…but that had to be the best concert i have ever been to..
and i am proud to say i would see Sammy again anyday..infact..i just found
out today that he will be performing about 50 miles from my home on Aug 22
in Merrill WI…I can not wait to attend it…I made a special trip into
work today to request that weekend off already..all because of the
performance i witnessed at ROCKFEST…ROCK ON SAMMY..

yours truely

A fan for life now

The Hennepin Ave

The Red Voodoo Tour

I just happened to be one of the 20 or so people invited on stage to be
part of the festivities courtesy of Rock 100.3 and a good college buddy,
David Van Pufflin (V.P.) who was the local producer of the show. The show
started at 8:00, so it was still light out. We were escorted on stage and
stood at a railing just above and to the left of the drummer, the band was
introduced, the curtains opened and I was in awe of the crowd. It was
estimated at 50,000-60,000.

The concert crowd really kicked in when just
after “3 Lock Box” they played “There’s Only One Way to Rock”. Other
highlights of the concert included the waitresses dressed in bumper stickers
and bikini bottoms and watching the women in the crowd show there enthusiasm
by lifting there tops up to Sammy’s encouragement. Once the sun went down,
the stage came to life, the band played scorching renditions of, “Bad Motor
Scooter”, “Heavy Metal”, “I Can’t Drive 55”, “Mas Tequila” and others. The
encore had all of the people invited on stage to go “Marching to Mars”.

The
show was part of the Minneapolis Aquatennial, which meant it was a free
concert. Sammy Hagar and his band gave it their all, playing for over two
hours. They were no doubt playing for the huge crowd with only one thing in
mind… Give the People What They Want!  They did just that and more!!!
