Allen County War Memorial Coliseum

The Red Voodoo Tour

I’ll cut to the chase:  Sammy ROCKS!  My wife bought tickets to the show for
my birthday, and all I can say is that it was a great gift.

I’ve been a Sammy fan since Standing Hampton, which I would guess qualifies
me as a Redhead.  Although, it certainly didn’t bother me to see Sammy go
with VanHalen, Sammy is happier now – no question.  All we talked about on
the way home was how much fun he is having.  It was great.

When we arrived, my wife pointed out that the tickets I thought were going
to be garbage turned out to be excellent.  Why?  Because Sammy had moved the
stage to center court in the arena, and literally cut the capacity in about
half.  Later in the show Sammy mentioned that his whole goal was to play to
HIS fans – nobody else’s.  He’d rather have 3 or 4000 Redheads there than
40,000 people who don’t care whether he’s there or not.  Cool!  Say whatever
you want, but sammy said it best (and I quote) “I love doin’ this shit”.  He
was referring to his passion for making and performing his music.  The other
quote I liked was when his record company pointed out that Red Voodoo was a
“party” album he replied “Heeeellllllllllo!?!? Of course it’s a party
album.”  I was tickled by that.  No hidden meanings, nothing.  Just pure
unadulterated fun,  Sammy style!

He started the show off much like I expected after reading the posted set
lists.  Acoustic Cabo Wabo, followed with The Revival.  It was immediately
obvious that we were at a party – not a concert.  The set list he played
deviated from the norm quite a bit from what I had been reading, but I loved
it all.  Because I play all his stuff, all the time, even my wife knew
everything.  Except one:  He played a really nice acoustic version of On The
Other Hand, and she didn’t realize what it was until I told her (LOL).
That’s okay, she thought it was good even when she didn’t know it.

The show played out for a click over 2 hrs., and was ended by Returning of
the Wish.  Sammy explained the song, and how it was really designed to end
the party on a “good feeling”.  It did.  Sammy rocks, has a great stage
presence, has a great band, and most of all, knows what he’s doing all this
for.  Because he loves it!  And he let’s it show.  After the Balance show, I
told my wife that I probably wouldn’t see VH again.  It seemed like the
thrill was gone.  Sammy is nearly polar opposite from 1995.  And frankly, so
is my perspective on whether I would see him again.  I told a friend in
response to “how was the concert?”: If he were playing again tonight, I’d be
there.

Civic Center Coliseum

The Red Voodoo Tour

I’ve never been able to go to a SAMMY concert before but after this one
I’m thinking of taking my vacation in CABO in Octoberjust to see SAMMY again.

The crowd was not as big  as some had hoped about (3 k),but those there got the show of there life. Sammy Rocked from about 8:00 till alittle after 10:00. Starting of with the watrees serving the band with some drinks and getting down with cabo. He played everything from three light box to red vadoo and some great Van Hagar songs as well. As I was getting back with my beer he started singing the very first song he had ever written which was really cool.

Sammy was great with the crowd alot of energy and very personable especally with women who kept throwing their lingere up on stage for Sammy to show to the crowd. Don’t tell his ol’ lady,he said she was already mad for having MONA in the band.Mona Rocks on bass.

Sammy promised to come back to Amarillo for another show next year and we’re damn well going to hold you to that promise.Because Sammy puts on the best damn PARTY IN TEXAS. Red Rocker Rules

See ya at the Cabo Wabo in October

The Brady Theater

The Red Voodoo Tour

This was the best Sammy show this year!!!  We saw him in Memphis and at
Kansas City, but he just blew the roof off the Brady Theater in Tulsa.  The
crowd was really small (under 3K) and you could tell that everyone was a
hard-core redhead.  Before the show started the people on the floor and in
the balcony were throwing beach balls around and yelling, definitely more of
a party crowd than a typical concert.

Sammy came out just a little after 8:00 and started with Cabo Wabo (as
usual) and just cranked it up from there.  He was drinking, the crowd was
drinking, everyone was happy and you could tell that Sammy really dug the
small crowd and how into it they were.  He was dancing with people on the
stage (I’m still trying to figure out how to get on there) and talking to
the audience.  He even played Poundcake…a personal favorite.

As for the Waboritas…I want to be Mona when I grow up!!!  David also had an
awesome drum solo which showed a lot of people exactly how much the
Waborita’s really rock.

We took my friend’s mom for her 44th birthday.  She just went with the girls
and she was so cute.  She just kept watching Sammy, clapping and singing.
She called today and said that it was one of her best birthdays yet…all
because of Sammy!

All in all, we met some netheads in line, saw a great show and are on a
quest for the front row at Omaha in Aug.  My final thoughts… MAS SAMMY!!!!!

Sunken Garden

The Red Voodoo Tour

The day was hot and humid and we drove from Austin to San Antonio for the
big show. My girlfriend and I listened to KISS 99.5 out of San Antonio on
the way, and they listed all the live music going on that night. The DJ said
“and of course, the big show tonight is Sammy Hagar down at the Sunken
Garden” and hyped the show up pretty good. We also found out that Grip Inc.
with Dave Lambardo, Slayer’s drummer was playing that night in S. A. After
we parked, we broke out the Cabo and got fired up for the show with a
celebratory shot of Cabo Wabo tequila that I stashed in my Camero. After
that we walk into the venue. It is a big outdoor theater that holds about
4500 people. After grabbing some cold ones we headed over to the 9 foot big
screen that they had of the Spurs – Nicks game. The Spurs were about to
become Champions, but more on that later. We noticed the many food vendors
there selling tacos, gorditos, nachos, fajitas, tripas and all kinds of
Mexican food. It smelled wonderful.

We were in line for Margaritas when we heard the magical beginning to Cabo
Wabo and rushed over to the stage(after we got are drinks first!). We had a
great view, on stage left about 30 feet from the stage. The set was just
awesome and my girlfriend remarked how much more comfortable it was in S.A.
than in Cabo San Lucas at Sammy’s birthday bash last year because it was
less crowded, not as hot and a much better view. Now if they only San
Antonio had Waboritas and a beach!

Sammy is a pretty nice guy, as evidenced by the his kindness to a wheelchair
bound fan. Some crazy fans down in front held this wheelchair guy above
their heads! Sammy told them to move him to the front and put him down on
stage! They did and Sammy had a roadie push him over to the railing so he
would have a cool view, right on stage. Talk about handicapped parking, he
had the best view of anybody.

We loved the big inflatable bottle of Cabo that Sammy had off to the side of
the stage! Towards the end of the show we found my brother there also. He
had one huge smile on his face, as did the other 4000 Redhead fans!
The show was very good, the sound was great and the light show was
impressive. I liked the way that Sammy would sometimes improvise and instead
of sing a phrase for the second time, he would hold up the mic for the crowd
to sing, and then he would do a nice scream as the phrase ended. Very cool!
And to top it off the hometown boys, the San Antonio Spurs won the
Championship that night. The city was going crazy, honking car horns, high
fiving, partying, and celebrating. See what happens when Sammy comes into
town!!

All in all a very magical night. Adios amigos y Viva Sammy Hagar!
