For more than four decades, Sammy Hagar has been recognized as one of the best and most accomplished lead singers and songwriters in rock music, but his journey began far from the spotlight. Born in Salinas, California in 1947 while his parents labored in the lettuce fields, hard work was ingrained in him from birth, forging the resilience and determination that would define his life. Raised in Fontana, California, he discovered music at a young age, and in 1960 convinced his mother to buy him a $39 guitar from the Sears catalog, making monthly payments to afford it. That humble start sparked a mindset that would take him from working-class roots to the biggest stages in the world; building a legacy as a rock legend, a committed philanthropist, and an entrepreneur who transformed the spirits industry.

From his breakthrough with Montrose to a multi-platinum solo career and as frontman for Van Halen, Chickenfoot, The Circle, and his latest Best of All Worlds band, Hagar has sold over 50 million albums, earned 25 Platinum records, and written rock anthems like “I Can’t Drive 55,” “Right Now,” and “Why Can’t This Be Love.” In 2024, his Best of All Worlds tour became one of the year’s top-grossing rock runs in North America and Japan. In April 2025, he released Encore, Thank You, Goodnight, a poignant, guitar-driven tribute to Eddie Van Halen, inspired by a vivid dream about his late bandmate. Co-written with Joe Satriani, the song debuted at No. 2 on Billboard’s Hard Rock Digital Song chart and earned millions of digital views. Hagar reteamed with Satriani, Michael Anthony, and Kenny Aronoff for his Stagecoach Festival headlining set, with the video premiere as their final encore. Critics hailed the song and video as a heartfelt goodbye to a legendary era, with Rolling Stone praising its gratitude-filled lyrics and the Las Vegas Review-Journal dubbing it “a seemingly impossible collaboration” brought to life. Hagar joined Satriani, Michael Anthony, and Kenny Aronoff days later to debut the song live at the opening of their hit residency at Dolby Live at Park MGM Las Vegas. The Best of All Worlds residency delivered an “only-in-Vegas” setlist spanning four decades of hits, with surprise appearances from friends like Kenny Chesney, Kesha, and Bob Weir.

Since opening his flagship Cabo Wabo Cantina in 1990, Sammy Hagar has transformed his passion for food, music, and spirits into a powerhouse lifestyle brand. In 1996, he launched Cabo Wabo Tequila, quickly turning it into the #2-selling premium tequila in the U.S. In 2010, he made history when he sold it to Gruppo Campari in a then record-breaking nine-figure deal that ignited today’s celebrity-backed spirits trend. Hagar now helms an award-winning portfolio of top-shelf brands inspired by his authentic beach and rock ‘n’ roll life, including Sammy’s Beach Bar Rum (with Rick Springfield), Santo Spirits (with Guy Fieri), and Red Rocker Brewing Co. His restaurant ventures include Sammy’s Beach Bar and Grill locations at airports in Honolulu, HI; Maui, HI; Las Vegas, NV; Cleveland, OH; and Charlotte, NC, as well as Cabo Wabo Cantinas in Cabo San Lucas and Las Vegas, and the Cabo Wabo Beach Club in Huntington Beach.

Never one to slow down, Hagar has expanded into publishing, TV, and radio with five seasons of his hit series Rock & Roll Road Trip with Sammy Hagar and his syndicated radio show Sammy Hagar’s Top Rock Countdown on 90+ stations. A #1 New York Times bestselling author and committed philanthropist, he and his wife Kari have donated millions to communities across the US through The Hagar Family Foundation. Named the first Honorary Ambassador to Los Cabos in 2022 for his impact on tourism and the local economy, Hagar still counts being a devoted husband and father to his four children as his greatest achievement.

Among his many honors and accolades, a Grammy Award winner (1992), an induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame (Van Halen, 2007), the first Honorary Ambassador to Los Cabos (2022), and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame (2024) — yet he considers his greatest achievement being a devoted husband and father to his four children.
